How Do All-on-4® Implants Work?

All-on-4® implants are one of the missing teeth replacement options that people who have lost most of their real teeth get to choose from. These are a cheaper alternative to replacing missing teeth with implants. It combines a particular type of dentures with the stability and bone tissue-preserving properties of implants.

Tooth loss is one of those problems that most people have to deal with at some point in their lives. There are about 35 million people in the U.S. who are missing most of their lower or upper set of teeth. Dentures are the cheapest way to replace a set of teeth, but they come with many disadvantages, like the time-consuming maintenance required or the lack of stability.

What to expect when getting All-on-4® implants

To understand how these dental prosthetics work, patients need to understand what an implant is. This is a metal rod or screw, often made with titanium, that is inserted into a person's jawbone. It mimics the function of a real tooth's root, and a crown is placed on top of it to replace the lost tooth.

Installing implants requires minor oral surgery since it is placed directly into the patient's jawbone. The thing is, patients who have lost most of their teeth do not need to replace them all with implants. The price of doing so would be very high.

With All-on-4® implants, patients get only four implants inserted into each half of their jaw. These implants keep the patient's jaw properly stimulated while holding a special set of dentures in place. The dentures used are permanently fixed to the implants, so they do not come out once installed. This is a huge advantage for anyone who has ever worn dentures since it eliminates the need to take remove them, clean them and soak the prosthetic in a denture solution each night.

It can be done during a single visit

All-on-4® implants are typically fitted with a special denture set the same day they are installed. That means the patient walks out of our clinic with their smile fully restored. The patient is sedated during the treatment, and they have natural-looking, functional teeth when it is over.

The patient still needs to be careful about the things they bite down on during this period, as it takes up to six months for the implants to fuse with the jawbone. Once this fusion is complete, the dentures are replaced with permanent, customized ones.

Anyone who has lost most of their teeth can benefit from All-on-4® implants. It gives patients who have lost most of their teeth a quick way to restore their smile. They get to enjoy the benefits and convenience that come with implants, without spending as much for the treatment.

Stop by our clinic for an evaluation, and find out if you are eligible for implants. You might have a brand-new smile by the time you leave our office.
